Naan is a very famous Indian bread served in almost all the Indian restaurants. It's made with maida (all-purpose flour) to give it good stretch and chewy texture.
But I generally avoid feeding my kids with all-purpose flour. Whether it's cakes, tarts, pancakes I try to make it with whole wheat flour.
As naan is made with only all-purpose flour, here I have used whole wheat flour Naan.
Do try it and you will realize it's much better than all-purpose flour. Just make sure about one thing that you don't use multi-grain atta(whole wheat flour) for this. I get two varieties of atta from the mill, Plain for baking and these kind of purposes and other multi-grain for daily chapati cooking.
Another important point is to make sure NOT to use non- stick tawa.
INGREDIENTS
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup curd
warm water for kneading dough
For Sprinkling:
1 tbsp onion seeds (kalonji)
1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
METHOD
Mix all the ingredients well and knead soft dough using warm water.
Take a big part of dough little bigger than regular chapati.
Roll it to make oval or round shape. Apply melted ghee over it, sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and onion seeds (kalonji)
Apply water on the opposite side.
Keep chapati on hot tawa. Once the bubble will start forming turn the tawa upside down. On high flame let it cook till it becomes brown.
Brush metled butter or ghee and serve hot with dal makhani, shahi paneer , Butter chicken , Malai Kofta or any side dishes
